What is Wellness?
The National Wellness Center definition sums this up nicely,

Why do we need Health & Wellness Coaches?
Just changing your diet or exercising is challenging to do. Stress and your environment can make creating and maintaining long-lasting changes difficult. Most people know that they should eat better and move more, yet, implementing and understanding this is almost impossible. Health and wellness coaching is about building an alliance between you and the coach to provide the necessary support (e.g., knowledge, critical resources, and emotional support). As your health coach, I will help you create space in your life for this transformation to begin.
What is the difference between going to the doctor to get well and Health & Wellness Coaching?
The doctor’s primary focus is on diagnosing and treating disease, with little time to focus on disease prevention. Coaching supports the work of your doctor or other licensed health professionals by helping you create a solid foundation for your own health and wellness through self-awareness of the problems driving your “unhealth” and self-actualization of how to address these challenges.
Health Coaches do not act in the capacity of a doctor, licensed dietician-nutritionist, therapist/counselor, or other licensed/ registered professionals. Any advice given by the Coach is not meant to take the place of advice by these professionals. If you are under the care of a healthcare professional or currently use prescription medications, you must discuss any dietary changes with your doctor. You should not discontinue any prescription medications without first consulting your doctor.
Health Coaches do not prescribe medications/supplements, assess micro-/macro- nutrient levels, provide healthcare/medical/nutrition therapy services, or diagnose/treat/ cure any disease, condition, or other physical or mental ailments of the human body.
The Health Coach is a mentor and guide trained in holistic health and wellness coaching. We help clients reach their health goals through a partnership with you focused on creating and implementing positive, sustainable lifestyle changes.
